A tragic incident has shocked the community of Medellín, Colombia. A 26-year-old woman, who had been shot by her partner, died after fighting for her life in intensive care. The incident occurred in the Robledo neighborhood, where the woman was attacked with a firearm by her partner. Following the attack, she was rushed to a medical center, where she remained in critical condition until her death. Local authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the details of the case and determine responsibility. This unfortunate event underscores the urgent need to address gender-based violence and protect women in vulnerable situations.

A new tragedy related to gender-based violence has shaken Medellín. A 26-year-old woman lost her life after being shot, allegedly by her partner. The incident occurred in the Robledo neighborhood, in the northwest of the city, where neighbors alerted authorities after hearing gunshots and desperate cries for help.

According to the preliminary report from the Metropolitan Police of the Aburrá Valley, the victim was identified as Lina Marcela Gutiérrez, a young mother and university student. Witnesses reported hearing a loud argument inside the home she shared with her partner during the night of the incident. Minutes later, a gunshot alerted neighbors, who immediately called emergency services.

Lina Marcela was rushed to a nearby medical center, where doctors initially stabilized her. However, after several days in critical condition in the intensive care unit, she ultimately died due to the severity of her injuries.

Police confirmed that the alleged assailant, a 28-year-old man identified as Alejandro C., fled the scene after the attack. He is currently a fugitive and is being actively sought by authorities, who have issued an arrest warrant for him on charges of femicide.

The news has sparked outrage on social media and strong condemnation within the community. Feminist groups and human rights organizations have called for a demonstration in honor of Lina Marcela and to demand justice. They also issued an urgent appeal to the government to strengthen protection measures for women at risk and improve reporting channels.

“Once again, a woman has been silenced by gender-based violence. We cannot continue to normalize these acts. We demand justice, but also prevention, education, and a real commitment from the authorities,” said Ana María Torres, spokesperson for the organization Mujeres Libres (Free Women).

With this latest case, the number of femicides in Colombia continues to rise. According to figures from the Gender Violence Observatory, more than 40 women have been murdered in domestic violence contexts so far in 2025.

Lina Marcela’s family asked for respect during their time of mourning and demanded that her case not go unpunished. “My daughter had dreams, goals, a future. It can’t be that violence ends so many young lives without real consequences,” her mother said through tears.
