On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 5, a tragic accident shook the city of Ipameri, Goiás. A school van overturned, resulting in the death of a 9-year-old girl, identified as Celina Victoria Frões Muniz Goes. The incident occurred on a rural road, about 35 km from the paved highway, in the region known as Mata do Calixto.

Police Chief Diogo Ferreira told the news portal g1 that the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to an independent rural school transport company. The Ipameri City Hall, in an official statement, expressed its condolences for the loss of the young student and declared three days of mourning in Celina’s memory. The school where the girl studied, the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Municipal School, suspended classes in honor of the student, and teachers, including the Secretary of Education, attended the wake and funeral, which took place in Caldas Novas.

According to Fire Chief Rodrigo André, five children and the driver of the pickup truck were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Celina’s brother was also present and suffered an injury, a bruise on his foot. The driver, for his part, only suffered a scratch on his back, but decided not to seek medical attention and remained at the scene.
