Francisco Portes Milanés, a retired general of the National Police, suffered a collapse while participating in a basketball game at the Ensanche La Fe Sports and Cultural Club in Santo Domingo, an event that surprised players, family members and other attendees of the meeting.
According to information confirmed by the spokesman for the National Police, Diego Pesqueira , the former officer was practicing basketball when the incident occurred, a fact that was later officially communicated by the institution.
A video captured by a bystander shows the moments after the collapse, when several attendees immediately rushed to help and coordinate the assistance efforts on the court.
The images show that those present performed first aid maneuvers with the aim of restoring his vital signs; however, the efforts made at the scene did not manage to change the outcome.
Known as “Pancho” , Francisco Portes Milanés developed an extensive career within the National Police, where he held different operational and administrative positions before retiring.
Throughout his career he held various positions within the institution, consolidating a recognized presence until officially ending his service after several years of work.
His last known role was in the province of Puerto Plata , a responsibility he held until 2020 , before definitively concluding his career in the National Police.
This incident occurred weeks after another one took place during a sporting activity in Villa Altagracia, in which Eddi Manuel de Jesús Robles was involved while participating in a similar event.
The official confirmation of the case was offered by Diego Pesqueira , while videos showing the attempts at assistance made by those who were at the sporting event continue to circulate on social media.
